I recently had the privilege of trying the NEW Seventh Generation Free & Clear Training Pants! My daughter was thrilled to try out her new Lorax Big Girl Training Pants! These training pants held up to the test too! I am about to confess what horrible parents we are…
Our family went to a friends house for a friends birthday and well my husband and I got carried away chatting with our friends that we completely forgot to take our newly potty training 2 year old to the bathroom! When we got in the car to go home I asked my husband if our daughter had been to the potty lately and he said, “No, I thought you were taking her!” Oops!
After 5 hours our daughter was sure to have needed to potty and she did, but the Seventh Generation Free & Clear Training Pants didn’t even bulge or droop! We were quite impressed with the training pants and not so much with our parenting skills that night! We all make mistakes right?!
Here are some of the great features of the Seventh Generation Free & Clear Diaper products:
- NEW Overnight Diapers are absorbent enough to keep your baby and bedding dry through the night or during prolonged travel
- Free & Clear diapers have improved more flexible tabs that provide even better fit
- Free & Clear training pants have an absorbent core made with more renewable, plant-based materials. They also feature stretchy, tear away side panels for a better fit and added convenience, as well as inner leak barriers for superior leakage protection
- Seventh Generation Free & Clear baby care products do not contain chlorine, fragrance, petroleum-based lotions or latex, and all Free & Clear products are also hypo-allergenic
- Starting March 2, you can register for a free The Lorax scrapbook with the purchase of any three Free & Clear diaper products, until supplies last
How would you like to win a Seventh Generation Diapers prize pack?

Your prize pack will include:
- One package of new Seventh Generation Free & Clear diaper product
- A copy of Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax storybook

I was very excited to recently receive a pre-release copy of the book The Money Saving Mom’s Budget by Crystal Paine to review here on ecoMomical Me. Now first I must say that Crystal is one of my absolute favorite bloggers (moneysavingmom.com), not just because of her content but because of her spirit and it shows thru in the book as well!
This book is not your average dry, boring book telling you all the ways to cut your spending. Instead this book inspires you and motivates you! Not only is the advice that Crystal gives practical, but it is also personal. She has been there and done just about everything in this book! If she can find a way to “squeeze a dollar out of a dime“, she let’s you know how she did it.
Now I am about the most frugal person I know and my friends tell me the same thing, so I didn’t expect to learn any new tricks in this book… boy was I wrong! I have read many personal finance books such as Cut Your Grocery Bill in Half and The Total Money Makeover and I figured there wasn’t much more to learn, but Crystal has some new ideas to help you get your finances under control. And I am so glad that she covered the most important part first, getting organized!
In The Money Saving Mom’s Budget Crystal shares exactly how to get organized, and it’s not rocket science but she tells you exactly what you need to here. I always struggle with not getting all my ‘To-Do’ list accomplished and well she helps you to realize what is a realistic goal, and to not set yourself up for failure. My friends will also tell you that I am extremely organized (or so it seems) but I truly needed to hear many of the suggestions Crystal mentions in her book, and I can’t wait to put them all into practice!
Now being a former coupon and store match-up blogger, I figured I would know all the resources for cutting your expenses, but I was pleasantly surprised to learn several new resources. Crystal even has a chapter on “Going Out On The Town Without Going Broke” with some fun and creative ideas on how to spoil yourself with out splurging!
My absolute favorite part of the book, is well… the very last page. After reading through the Acknowledgements, which I don’t normally do but Crystal inspired me to, you will find the most important paragraph in the entire book. Not only is this book going to help you get your finances under control but, when you purchase The Money Saving Mom’s Budget by Crystal Paine you will also be giving to Compassion International! Crystal is donating all the proceeds from the sale of The Money Saving Mom’s Budget to Compassion International!!! When you purchase this book you will be helping women and children in the Dominican Republic through Compassion International! Crystal not only encourages you to give but she allows you to give just by purchasing her book and leading by example. I am truly inspired by Crystal and her hard work and dedication to God, her family and her blog.
Let me finish by telling you:
- “You don’t have to be stuck unless you choose to be. No matter the state of your finances, there is hope!” and this book will help you with simple and straight forward solutions.
- If you think you are the cheapest person on Earth and know all there is to know about saving money, you can always learn something new (I did!)
- If you purchase this book you will help women and children through the proceeds donated to Compassion International… that’s worth the purchase!
Now run don’t walk to your nearest book store or go over to Amazon.com and pick up your copy of The Money Saving Mom’s Budget by Crystal Paine, heck why not pick up a couple extra copies for friends and family too?!
After you purchase the book(s) be sure to check out Crystal’s blog MoneySavingMom.com for some great giveaways this week to go with the launch of her new book, as well as find more wonderful money saving tips!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas! Now that the presents are unwrapped, it’s time to examine those ingredients lists!
Our children received some gifts from some well meaning people. However, they have no idea what was hiding inside those pretty little packages.
Here are some of the ingredients we found in a play makeup set that stated:
“SAFETY TESTED: Our products are designed to be safe and harmless. Our cosmetics are formulated for children. However, necessary precaution and supervision is recommended. In case of adverse reaction, discontinue use immediately.”
I looked up some of the ingredients in the Skin Deep Database and here is what I found:
Propylparaben – is in the paraben family which are known to mimic estrogen and can act as potential hormone (endocrine) system disruptors.
Hazard score = 5 Moderate Hazard
Data score = Fair
Health concerns: Developmental & reproductive toxicity and Allergies & immunotoxicity
Methylparaben – is in the paraben family which are known to mimic estrogen and can act as potential hormone (endocrine) system disruptors.
Hazard score = 5 Moderate Hazard
Data score = Fair
Health concerns: Allergies & immunotoxicity
BHA – (butylated hydroxyanisole) is a preservative and stabilizer that has been classified as “reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen” based on evidence of carcinogenicity in experimental animals.
Hazard score = 10 High Hazard
Data score = Robust
Health concerns: Cancer, Allergies & immunotoxicity and it’s Use restrictions.
Imidazolidinyl Urea - is an antimicrobial preservative that acts as a formaldehyde releaser in cosmetics and personal care products.
Hazard score = 5 Moderate Hazard
Data score = Limited
Health concerns: Allergies & immunotoxicity
These were just some of the ingredients with listed concerns on the Skin Deep Database. I didn’t even touch all the dyes and the infamous “fragrance”! Needless to say my children will not be playing with these products!
Visit the Skin Deep Database to find out more information about their ratings.
