This month I read Renee Loux’s book Easy Green Living: The Ultimate Guide to Simple, Eco-Friendly Choices for You and Your Home. This book shares (as the title states) how easy it can be to go green at home. It is packed full of useful information. There is so much useful information that I would not recommend this book to new “greenies”. I think this book can be a little overwhelming by having too much information for someone who is just starting to research going green.
The book has a chapter for each area of the home that contains useful information on what you can do to green that area and why. Renee also shares interesting facts throughout the text. For instance did you know…
If every household in the US replaced 1 four-roll pack of 260-sheet toilet paper with 100% recycled toilet paper, it would save:
- Over 1,000,000 trees
- 2.7 million cubic feet of landfill space (about 4,000 garbage trucks’ worth)
- 356 million gallons of water (1 year supply for 11,200 people)
- 60,600 pounds of pollution
Also included throughout the book are “green thumb guides”. These are sections that list green companies and their products as well as where to buy them! For instance I discovered that CVS brand toilet paper is 75% recycled and made of 40% post-consumer content making it a more eco-friendly choice! I think these green thumb guides are great resources to find the green products you are looking for!
I highly recommend this book for intermediate “greenies”! I checked this book out from our local library, however it is so resourceful that I think I will be purchasing it. I have been finding myself referring to this book each time I make a new purchase to see which product would be best as I continue to take small steps to go green.
