Homemade Automatic Air Freshener Refills (ecoFriendly)

automatic air freshner

I have one of those automatic air fresheners that I got for free when I used to extreme coupon, but now that I am starting to eliminate harmful chemicals from our home I no longer want to use it.  I had tossed it into my free box at our garage sale and surprisingly, no one took it. So I decided to try and use essential oils in it and it worked GREAT! I think it smelled better than when I was breathing the wonderful smelling toxic chemicals! :)

Here is what I did:

  1. Use a knife to pop the top off of the plastic container.
  2. Put about 20 drops of your favorite essential oils.
(I have been using sweet orange in one and lavender in the other one and they smell soooo good!)
  3. Fill the remainder of the container with water.
  4. Replace cap and shake well.
  5. Place in your automatic air freshener, plug-in and enjoy!

I have noticed the essential oil refills do not seem to last as long as the standard refills, but they smell so much better! Now the essential oils are a little pricy up front but in the long run you will save more money using essential oils verses buy the standard refills and you will no longer be emitting potentially toxic chemicals into your air!
