If you remember several months ago I posted about a great little series called Dare to Go Zero. This series showed some great ideas on how to reduce waste and taught me about things that I had no idea could be recycled!
This challenged me to take a few more steps toward reducing my waste. At the time I decided that I would set 3 goals to accomplish:
Well now is the time when you all will hold me accountable! So here is an update!
Re-useable Diapers – We have officially transitioned to reusable diapers! Yeah! We have had the great privilege to test several diapers from several different companies such as: FuzziBunz, Go Green, Real Nappies, & Thirsties. Honestly we love them all! Cloth diapering is not nearly as difficult or disgusting as I once thought!
Re-useable Baby Wipes – We have not looked into cloth baby wipes yet. Honestly, I have a huge stash of baby wipes that I got great deals on back in my couponing days and I want to use those up before we move onto cloth wipes.
Re-useable Produce Bags – We also have not moved onto reusable produce bags. This is something I really want to do, however I just haven’t wanted to spend the money on re-useable produce bags since I have been buying all of my produce from my CSA! I do however still use reusable shopping bags whenever I go shopping (if I remember to take them in!)
Even though I have only reached one of my three goals, I’m fine with that because I have done something! Changing just one thing does make a difference!
I have also made changes in areas that I did not set goals for such as switching to reusable cloth menstrual pads and cups. It is amazing to see the difference that these two little changes have made. We now on average have about one grocery bag full of garbage each week for our family of four. I think that is great!
NEW GOALS
Now it is time that I set some new goals to try and achieve as we try to reduce our waste. Obviously I will keep the two goals that we still have not reached as well as adding a new one.
Will you join me in trying to reduce waste? What things will you do to try and reduce your waste?

Congratulations, April! Families using cloth diapers instead of disposables LITERALLY cut their household waste in half. You took a big step! So happy to hear it’s going well for you!
