October is Non-GMO month and we want all ecoMomical Me readers to know as much as possible about GMOs and the issues surrounding GMOs. GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organisms and basically they are cells who’s DNA has been altered. Corporations and the US government have been misleading and deceiving Americans in regards to GMOs. Most Americans rely on our government and it’s agencies to protect us, as they should, however that is not the case. We can no longer sit back and wait for the government to do the right thing. We as Americans must use our voice and take a stand! We must show the government and corporations what matters most to us!

What can you do?

• Support your local organic farmers!
• Read and follow Non-GMO Shopper’s Guides:
  • Center for Food Safety: True Foods Shopper’s Guide
  • How to avoid foods made with genetically modified organisms (GMOs) ShopNoGMO!
• Tell your super market to carry GMO verified foods!
• Contact your local government officials!
• Ask your government officials to stop GMO salmon!
• Support State legislation and Congressional legislation in your area!
• Sign the Just Label It petition!
• Sign the EWG’s Just Label It petition!
• Sign Organic Consumers Association’s Truth-In-Labeling Petition!
• Print Organic Consumers Association’s Truth-In-Labeling Petition and gather signatures!
• Click here to ask your government officials to take action against Monsanto’s GMO Sweet Corn!
• Tell grocery stores that you DO NOT want GMO Corn in your grocery store!
• Visit the Millions against Monsanto website and join the movement!
• Visit the labelGMOs.org and see what you can do to help!
• Discuss what you know with family, friends and neighbors!
• Join the Right 2 Know march!
