RECIPE: Concord Grape Pie

grape pie

Concord Grape Pie

2 – 9″ pie crusts
5 cups concord grapes
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon lemon juice
a pinch of salt

  1. Wash and peel grapes, keep skins separate from pulp.
  2. Place grape pulp in a saucepan and cook over medium low heat for about 15 minutes. Occasionally mash with a potato masher to help break down pulp.
  3. Remove pulp from heat and press through a food mill or strainer to remove grape seeds.
  4. Combine grape pulp, skins & lemon juice.
  5. In a separate bowl combine sugar, flour & salt.
  6. Add dry ingredients to grape mixture and mix well.
  7. Pour ingredients into one 9″ pie crust.
  8. Top grape mixture with second 9″ pie crust, flute edges and cut vents in pie crust.
  9. Bake at 400º F for 45 minutes or until crust is golden brown.

TIP: If you want to have concord grape pies all year long, simply place the filling in a gallon freezer bag, place inside a 9″ pie plate and place in your freezer for 24 hours. When you are ready to make your pie, simply pull the filling from the freezer place in your pie crusts and bake!

We made this pie and several others which we froze, with organically grown grapes we purchased from a local vendor.
